MS TechDays Sweden 2016 – Visio and SharePoint BPM portals

I am on my way home after presenting and demoing Visio and SharePoint BPM portals at Kistamassan near Stockholm. I was staying at the Scandic Victoria Tower right next door. Very handy, and very tall. It is a striking building, as can be seen in my photos below, however, speaking as an ex-architect, I was disappointed to find the modern interior spoilt by large, but inadequate, curtains that took several minutes to draw over the large number of triangular windows in my room. I really think it would have been worth installing electric auto-tinting glass.

I was on the corner of the 18th of 34 floors, and I took a picture with my Ricoh Theta. This is a great camera that was given to me, as a speaker at MS Ignite, several weeks ago. Follow this link, https://t.co/y8nrK0geAO , to see a 360 degree view of my room 🙂

As for the conference, there were some really interesting talks … everyone in Sweden speaks English! I was particularly inspired by Bill Buxton, billbuxton.com, who made a great case for ubiety, which is definitely my new word of the day. Basically a truth cannot be considered without context, or place. We developers need to ensure that our interfaces are the best for the situation that they are used in.

As for my own presentation, I have uploaded the slides to docs.com…

Things that Should be Easy

Every so often (too often in the IT industry) I encounter things that should have been very easy to do but turned out to be far too complicated. My favorite topics include SharePoint, .Net development, and software architecture, especially distributed systems.
